Explaining the Problem
Effective education engages people and motivates them to act. The word 'education' for many of us conjures images of sitting in a school room listening to information which we may or may not be interested in. 'Education' in the litter context spans much more broadly and could just as easily be termed 'engagement' because we can 'educate' people as much as we like but we must engage them in the issue to achieve behaviour change.
Education includes 3 main elements :
- information about the problem
- incentives to motivate people to change their behaviour
- communication tools to convey the message
Education encompasses these 3 elements to ensure that the target audience is engaged to achieve behaviour change.
