Which Butt Bin is Right for me?
The following questions will help you explore your options:
- What council permit or planning conditions are in place that may immediately eliminate the use of certain butt bins? This may include aspects such as heritage buildings, footpath obstruction, esthetics, etc
- What bin options are available that have been specifically designed to cater for smokers' litter? (Consider the variety of bins available including personal ashtrays, portable ashtrays, windproof ashtrays, wall mounted butt bins, etc.)
- Which type of infrastructure will be most convenient for people to use?
- Where will the infrastructure need to be placed?
- Determine this by identifying the 'hot spots' for butt litter.
- It is of little use installing butt bins if they are not placed at the site of the problem
- How durable are they?
- Can the bin remain outdoors in all weather or does it need to be brought in each night?
- Is the bin Australian made?
- What is the capacity of the bin? How often would you expect it would have to be emptied?
- How is the bin emptied?
- Does the bin require any maintenance? If so, who is responsible for the maintenance? Is there a cost involved if the bin company maintains the bin?
- Does it have replaceable parts or do you need to replace the entire bin? If the parts are replaceable, how easy are they to obtain and how expensive?
- What are the fire hazard risks?
- What are the dimensions of the bin?
- How is it mounted?
- Is it likely to be blown or easily knocked over?
- How is it installed? Who is responsible for installation?
- Is there a provision for signage on the bin?
- Is the bin available in my venue's colours? Can I have my logo printed on the bin?
- Determine time lines for ordering, delivery, installation and distribution.
